PNF
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) is a therapeutic system that reeducates neuromuscular pathways using the laws of muscle physiology. Spiral diagonal movement patterns help assess and correct muscle imbalances. Muscle balance is vital to the proper functioning of the joints. If there is a muscle that is too tight or weak, other muscles compensate and joints may eventually become irritated or inflamed because of the chronic imbalances. Other PNF techniques include hold-relax stretching to decrease muscle spasm and pain and increase range of motion; contract-relax to increase strength and coordination; rhythmic stabilization to increase range of motion, decrease pain and spasm, and stabilize joints; and slow reversal to increase strength.span>
